Trick-Taker - Discard Bidding

Quick concept for a bidding mechanism in a trick taking game:
  • Before the round begins, after trump suit is decided by revealing the top card of the deck and without communicating, all players simultaneously discard any number of cards from their hand face up.
    • The number of cards you discard is the number of tricks you must take
    • Each trick is worth 10(?) points.
      • Ex. Discard 3 cards from your hand face up to pursue the possibility of earning 30 points.
    • All players now look at and consider which cards are not in play
  • Round ends when one player has no cards left to play.
    • Players who are more conservative with their bid have the ability to hold cards back unplayed at the end of the round, giving them more control over the hand.
    • Players who discard more cards have less control, but can attempt to earn more points.
  • Maybe this works in a team format game as well?
    • Gives room for team mates to signal to each other through discards what they lack/need/have/intend
      • Perhaps one teammate discards a bunch of cards, asking the other to alley-oop them into tricks
      • Perhaps teammates both discard a few cards and try to coordinate with each other about each other's needs.
